Fire Marshal and 
Fire Prevention Division Chief​

Division Chief/Fire Marshal Dykens has been in the fire service for over 40 years.  He started his full time firefighting career with the United States Air Force.  He was active duty for eight years and then worked as a civilian firefighter for an additional nine years.  He became the Fire Marshal for the Hualapai Valley Fire District just north of Kingman in 1994 and then was hired as the Fire Marshal in Bullhead City in 2003.  Chief Dykens says he loves working and living in Bullhead City.
In November 2011, he received the Fire Marshal Designation through the Commission on Professional Credentialing, which made him at the time one of only fifteen worldwide with this credentialing.  
Chief Dykens is responsible for the Fire Prevention Division which encompasses fire inspections and code enforcement, fire investigations, and public education for all of Bullhead City.  All fire inspectors for Bullhead City Fire Department are certified fire inspectors through the International Code Council (ICC).
Chief Dykens has been happily married for over 40 years with eight children and 30 grandchildren.

Life safety and property protection are the primary goals of the Bullhead City Fire Prevention Division. It is comprised of the Fire Marshal, two Fire Prevention Specialists (Investigator/Inspector), and an Administrative Support Assistant.

The Fire Prevention Division performs inspections of businesses within the City of Bullhead City to assist business owners in eliminating hazards and maintaining a safe workplace. They are responsible for enforcing city council adopted codes and ordinances, issuing various permits, follow-up on citizen complaints in regards to possible hazards, and maintaining records for business in the city.

Other services provided by the Fire Prevention Division include fire investigations, public education, car seat classes, smoke alarm assistance and fire extinguisher training.
